As per the new rule implemented by the US government, the Embassy of the United States of America in Kathmandu, Nepal has urged all applicants for F, M, and J category non-immigrant visas to set their personal social media accounts to public, saying the move is aimed at aiding the vetting process.

“Effective immediately, all individuals applying for an F, M, or J nonimmigrant visa are requested to adjust the privacy settings on all of their social media accounts to ‘public’ to facilitate vetting necessary to establish their identity and admissibility to the United States under U.S. law,” said the US Embassy in its notice issued on June 25, 2025.

The F-1 Visa is allowing applicants as an academic student to enter the United States as a full-time student at an accredited college, university.

Likewise, M-1 visa is also issued to those foreign students to study full-time at a technical, vocational, or other nonacademic program in the United States

F, M and J visa categories are typically issued to students, vocational trainees, and exchange visitors.

J visas are nonimmigrant visas for individuals approved to participate in exchange visitor programs in the United States.
