Bangladesh marks 55th Independence Day

To mark the 55th Anniversary of the Great Independence and National Day of Bangladesh, the Embassy of Bangladesh in Kathmandu hosted a grand National Day reception on the other day evening in the capital.

Vice President of Nepal, H.E. Ramsahay Prasad Yadav was the Chief Guest.

Ambassador of Bangladesh to Nepal H.E. Md Shafiqur Rahman paid profound tributes to the valiant freedom fighters who made their supreme sacrifices during the nine month-long Liberation War of Bangladesh at the function expressing his sincere appreciation to the government and the people of Nepal for their invaluable moral and material support during the War.

He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening and solidifying the bilateral relations with Nepal, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, connectivity, energy, culture, education, tourism, and people-to-people contacts.

Referring to the new government in Bangladesh, the Ambassador apprised the gathering about the plans and initiatives of the new government under the dynamic and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

Ambassador Rahman also congratulated the new government of Nepal of Prime Minister Balendra Shah and his cabinet.

As the Bangladesh government is keen to engage closely with the new government of Nepal and the international community too, the Bangladeshi envoy hopes that the bilateral collaboration will further deepen and reach new heights in the days ahead.

Banners featuring the candidacy of the Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman, who is running for the post of the President of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly for the term 2027-2028 were on display. Ambassador Rahman presented a brief outline of his profile and sought support for his candidature.

Huge numbers of the guests from the different walks-of-life including ministers of Nepal government, members of the diplomatic corps, political leaders, senior government officials, media people, entrepreneurs, Bangladesh community living in Nepal and others attended the reception.

Shortly after the creation of Bangladesh, Nepal was the seventh country to recognize Bangladesh as the new nation with establishing formal diplomatic ties on April 8, 1972.

Geographically, Bangladesh is the third-closest country to Nepal after India and China. Separated by a narrow 27-kilometer strip of Indian territory Bangladesh and Nepal maintain a cordial relationship with high-level cordiality, significant cooperation in all sectors.

Since establishing diplomatic ties, Nepal-Bangladesh have been enjoying excellent relationships and share similar views on various issues of common interests supporting each other on various international, regional stages.

No doubt, Nepal and Bangladesh share strong friendly regional values, focused on economic cooperation, energy trade, connectivity, tourism as well as deeper partnership.
