National Day of Thailand observed in Nepal

To mark the National Day of the Kingdom of Thailand, Ms. Manusavee Monsakul Charge d’Affaires a.i. of the Royal Thai Embassy in Kathmandu hosted a reception in the capital this evening December 4, 2023.

Vice President of Nepal H.E. Ram Sahaya Yadav was the chief guest at the function where people from various walks-of-life including Nepal government officials, members of the diplomatic corps in Nepal, security officials, journalists, entrepreneurs and others attended.

On the occasion, acting chief of the Royal Thai Embassy in Kathmandu Ms. Monsakul lauded the age-old Nepal-Thailand relationships. She also highlighted the various activities performed by the Embassy of Thailand in promotional works in strengthening the age-old bilateral relationship of Thailand and Nepal.

The sport persons from Thailand pleased the attending guests by performing their sporting talents Muay Thai, also named Thai boxing at the event.

Every year on December 5, Thailand celebrates three important events: the Birthday Anniversary of His Majesty the King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great, the National Day of Thailand and Thailand’s Father’s Day.

Thailand and Nepal established diplomatic relations on November 30, 1959 and it has been 64 years now that both the countries have developed close bonds of friendship based on mutual trust, respect and understanding Nepal and Thailand have been enjoying an excellent bilateral relationship at government and peoples’ level too.

However, strong linkages between the people of Thailand and Nepal date back to ancient times with the flourishing of Buddhism in Thailand.

Thailand being a predominantly Buddhist country, Buddhism has remained one of the strongest links between the peoples of Nepal and Thailand. Thus, Thailand has been playing a pivotal role in the development and promotion of Lumbini – the birthplace of Lord Buddha which is one of the most desired destinations in Nepal for Thai visitors.

Realizing the need for exchange of cross-cultural activities, time and again, Thailand has been organizing trade and development experiences, tourism opportunities, exploration of advanced educational careers and food festivals, and medical reliability.

Thailand is a country with diversity. From the tip of the northern highland to the toe of her southern province, the country holds in store a wide variety of fascinating natural and cultural attractions to excite and thrill visitors from near and far.

The growing volume of the trade between Nepal and Thailand and direct flight from Bangkok to Kathmandu has been strengthening the ties of the two nations. Thailand is also assisting Nepal to develop professional human resources by providing scholarships to Nepali students in various sectors.

As Nepal and Thailand have a long history of cultural links, both being Asians, many Thai citizens feel close to Nepalese people as both the countries’ people share certain values and sentiments in traditional and cultural heritages.

According to the NRN sources, it is believed that nearly 100,000 people of Nepali origin from Myanmar are living in Thailand. Most Nepalese in Thailand mainly live in Bangkok, Chiang Mai and in the popular resort towns of Phuket, Pattaya and Chaweng Beach on Koh Samui in the Gulf of Thailand.

Also, about 5,000 Nepalese are working in various sectors in Thailand, the sources added.

There are many similarities between Nepalese and Thai people including lightheartedness, love of beauty, reverence for tradition, sense of freedom and devotion to their creeds. As the ties between Nepal and Thailand are strengthening, Nepali and Thai people love and enjoy saying Nepal-Thai Bhai Bhai.

As Nepal and Thailand have also exchanged hands of cooperation in many international forums, this has boosted the friendly ties between Thailand and Nepal into a deeper and broader sense marked by understanding and strong goodwill friendship.
