The renowned Israeli actor, director and founder of “Nefesh” theatre in Israel, Mr. Howard Rypp, has arrived in Nepal for the screening of his award-winning documentary film “Gimpel the Fool Returns to Poland,” representing Israel at the 7th Nepal Cultural International Film Festival 2026.
The documentary is based on the short story “Gimpel the Fool” by the late Nobel Laureate author Mr. Isaac Bashevis Singer, according to the press release of the Embassy of Israel in Kathmandu.
The film generated significant interest and discussions regarding the life and literary legacy of the late Nobel Laureate among the audience and was awarded the First Prize at the festival, in recognition of its outstanding cinematic excellence, powerful storytelling, artistic merit and meaningful contribution to global cinema.
The Embassy of Israel facilitated the screenings of the film at Dibyabhumi Multiple College and Imperial World School in Kathmandu yesterday.
The screenings were held for students and faculty members in the presence of Mr. Rypp, who interacted and shared his insights from the film, its background, themes, creative process and about the Holocaust.

Through such programs, the Embassy of Israel continues to promote cross-cultural understanding and strengthen people-to-people ties, the release reads.
