Korea supports US 8.6 million
Former prime minister of Nepal and Chairperson of Nepal Communist Party-Maoist Pushpa Kamal Dahal-Prachanda and Country Director of Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Nepal Office Sunghoon Ko jointly begun groundbreaking ceremony of the Nirmal Lama Polytechnic Institute (NLPI) building in Bardibas, Mahottari District on Monday September 5, 2022.
Speaking at the function, Chairman Prachanda expressed his gratitude to KOICA for its ongoing assistance to the Government of Nepal and praised the bilateral collaboration existing between Nepal and the Republic of Korea.

Minister for Education, Science and Technology Devendra Poudel said that the project will produce skilled and competent workforces to meet the construction needs in supporting Nepal’s economic prosperity.
Country Director of KOICA, Sunghoon Ko briefed the project on the significant technical cooperation provided by the Korean Government to Nepal and expressed his hope for the positive impact of the project.
The construction of the Polytechnic Institute building is being supported by KOICA in coordination with the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT).
It is to note that the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish the Polytechnic Institute for Construction Workforce Development in Province 2 was signed on December 15, 2021 between the Governments of the Republic of Korea Nepal aiming to be completed by 2027.
The project is worth US $ 8.6 million and will be implemented by KOICA and CTEVT as a Model Polytechnic Institute to produce competent construction workforces to meet the domestic and global demands.
It is the first model polytechnic institution to be built in around 4,600 square meters that will be equipped with all modern facilities.
KOICA also provides technical guidance and support for the development of the Master Plan of the Polytechnic Institute identifying short-term training reflecting local needs, operational plan of the institute, career service package, partnership with industry, and school management system.
Ministers, Parliament Member, Mayor of Bardibas Municipality, other officials of Nepal government, Deputy Country Director of KOICA Ms. Jeong Eun Song were among the high-level dignitaries attending the function.
The Government of the Republic of Korea has been supporting the Government of Nepal through KOICA in various areas of health, education, IT, environment and rural development since 1991.
