Organizing various literary programs, the 212th birth anniversary of the pioneer poet of Nepali literature Bhanubhakta Acharya is celebrated today in home and abroad.
Various programs including lauding the role of Bhanubhakta in Nepali literature sector have been organized across the country to commemorate Bhanubhakta’s contribution to connecting the common people with religion, culture and literature by translating the Ramayana for the first time in Nepali.
Born on Asad 29, 1871 BS (July13, 1814 AD) in Chundiramgha, Tanahun district of west Nepal, Poet Bhanubhakta unified modern Nepal through language, literature and culture after late the Great King Prithvi Narayan Shah united the country geographically, it is believed in the literary field.
Poet Bhanubhakta was famous for translating the Ramayana (an historic Hindu scripture originally written in Sanskrit language) into Nepali language for the first time with the inspiration of the grass-cutter. His notable works among other many credits include ‘Badhushikshya’, ‘Bhaktimala’, ‘Prashnottar’, ‘Ramgeeta’ etc. that are considered an invaluable heritage of Nepali literature.
Besides observing Pioneer Poet Bhanubhakta Acharya’s birth anniversary in Nepal he is also remembered around the cities where Nepali literary lovers are residing.
Poet Acharya passed away in 1925 BS (1868 AD).
Meanwhile, in a message on the occasion, President Ramchandra Paudel has said that we should all reflect on the historical fact that Pioneer Poet Bhanubhakta helped establish linguistic unity among Nepali speakers around the world.
“Bhanubhakta has made an incomparable contribution to the promotion of Nepali language, literature and culture by making Nepali language the language of the people and making it more advanced,” the President has said in a message.
The President has mentioned that Bhanubhakta’s Ramayan is a work that promotes the Nepali script and helps in using religion, duty, loyalty, service, etc. in human life.
He has also called for developing the Chundiramgha in Tanahun- birthplace of Poet Bhanubhakta as a historical and cultural site.
