National Assembly- the upper house of parliament will have 19 new faces from tomorrow.

From today-Tuesday, 19 members of the National Assembly are finishing their two year terms as a member of the upper house.

Finance Minister Dr. Yubaraj Khatiwada who was nominated by the President is among those 19 who finish their term as lawmakers.

Two years before, all 59 National Assembly members were divided into two years, four years and six years category term through the lottery system. On that categorization basis, 19 NA lawmakers receiving the draws for two years are completing their tenure today.

Another 20 NA members will stay in the House for four years while the next group will stay for six years.

According to Article 86.3 of the Constitution of Nepal, the term of office of the members of the NA shall be six years. The term of office of one-third of the members of the National Assembly shall expire in every two years.

Among the18 new lawmakers who have been elected to the NA in last election held two months before are going to take oath tomorrow.

Narayan Kaji Shrestha who lost to Dr. Baburam Bhattarai in Gorkha constituency in the House of Representatives election held two years before is one of those among the 18 new faces.

However, who will be the luckiest person to be nominated by the President to the National Assembly is still in doubt.

In the political market, there is a rumor that Prime Minister wants to re-nominate Finance Minister Dr. Yubaraj Khatiwada while the other faction of the CPN are saying that party’s vice president Bamdev Gautam, who also lost the direct election held for House of Representatives in 2018 from Bardia to Nepali Congress candidate, will be appointed by the President on the recommendation of the government.
