The Embassy of Israel expresses its deep concern and strong condemnation following the latest missile attack on Jerusalem, and the holy sites of the three religions in the old city, carried out by the Iranian regime on the night of 16 March 2026, during the holy month of Ramadan.
The Iranian regime once again fired missiles toward Jerusalem and within the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the Temple Mount- the holy sites of the three religions in the old city and near the Western Wall during the sacred month of Ramadan.
The Iranian terrorist regime is targeting Jerusalem – a city of profound religious significance, home to more than one million Jews, Muslims and Christians – thereby directly putting at risk civilian population and the holy sites of the three religions during a sacred religious period is an unacceptable act that endangers not only human lives but also the shared values of respect, coexistence, and religious freedom, said in a press release issued by the Embassy of Israel in Kathmandu.
The Ayatollah regime of Iran chose to fire missiles during the holy Muslim holiday at sites sacred to Islam demonstrates its cynical and disregard for holy or sacred. The strike on holy sites further underscores that the claims against Israel regarding any restrictions on Muslim freedom of worship are baseless and unfounded, and constitute a transparent attempt to incite and inflame tensions, with no factual or religious foundation. Israel protects the holy sites of all worshipers and uses all necessary defensive means to prevent harm to all worshipers and all sacred places.
The Embassy reiterates its commitment to promoting peace, protecting sacred spaces, and ensuring that all individuals, regardless of faith, can practice their religion safely and freely, it reads.
