The Embassy of Israel in Nepal organized an Israeli-Nepali Cartoons Exhibition in Kathmandu.
Three prominent Israeli caricaturists- Mr. Nissim Hezkiyau (Nusko), Prof. Itamar Daube, and Mr. Uri Fink are in Nepal.
Nissim Hezkiyau (Nusko) has been serving as the Artistic Director of Animix- The International festival of Animation, Comics and Caricature in Tel Aviv since 2001.
Likewise, Prof. Itamar Daube is a professor in Shenkar College teaching visual communication, animation and game design. He is an editorial caricature of Yedioth Acharonot and has contributed artwork across various forms of media, including print, television and gaming since 2010.
Similarly, Uri Fink is the creator of the Israeli popular comic series Zbeng and is serving as Chairman of the Israeli Cartoonists and Comics artists since 2021. He is a daily political cartoonist for Maariv newspaper.
As part of the visit, the exhibition was held in Kathmandu from 28-30 September 2026 under the theme: “Highest and Lowest on Earth.”
As part of a cultural exchange between Israel and Nepal, the exhibition featured works by Israeli and Nepali cartoonists exploring the theme through caricature and cartoons.
The Israeli works were coordinated by Mr. Nissim Hezkiyau while the Nepali section was led by Mr. Rajesh KC and Mr. Rabi Mishra of the Cartoonist Club of Nepal.
The exhibition also featured a live caricature session, during which the Israeli artists created caricature portraits of guests.
The visitors enjoyed the exhibition and also provided the opportunity for them to have portraits drawn by the Israeli artists and take home their caricatures as a memento of the occasion.
Welcoming the artists and guests at the event, Ms. Janan Bebar, Chargés d’Affaires a.i. said, “The exhibition brings together two remarkable points on our planet — the Dead Sea, the lowest place on Earth, and Mount Everest, the highest point on Earth. Cultural events such as this one offer a wonderful opportunity to bring our peoples even closer through art, creativity, and human connection.”
She further noted that cartoon art has a unique way of looking at the world. “With a simple line, a creative idea, and sometimes a touch of humor, it can make us think, smile, and see familiar things from a different perspective.”
Israeli artist Hezkiyau (Nusko) said, “It’s wonderful to have such a unique exhibition in such a lovely and friendly country, Nepal.”
The Israeli artists continued their visit with meetings and interactions with Nepali cartoonists, affiliated with Cartoonists club of Nepal, sharing their experiences, creative approaches, and explored the possibility of collaboration in the future.
Besides, the visiting artists also conducted lectures and interactive sessions for students of Journalism and Mass Communication at Tribhuwan University and Dibyabhumi Multiple College.
Their session covered topics including “The Notion of Motion”, “Everyone can make Comics Workshop” and “On the face of Caricature Portrait.”
Through the exhibition, interactions and lectures, they shared their experiences and insights into the art of caricature, comics and visual communication.
The visit provided a platform to exchange ideas and strengthen cultural and artistic connections between Israel and Nepal.
