School students get ‘free lunch’ with help of Israel Embassy

The Embassy of Israel in Kathmandu organized “Volunteering Day” Friday (January 24).

The embassy joining hands with Shalom Club Nepal has been organizing “Volunteering Day” every year since a decade ago.

This year also the day was organized at Shanti Shikshya Mandir Madhyamik Vidhyalaya- the government funded higher secondary school in downtown Kathmandu.

On the occasion, a huge amount of rice and lentils (would be sufficient for a year to the school students) were handed over by the Israeli Ambassador to Nepal Benny Omer to the Chairman of the School Management Committee Laxmi Das Manandhar amidst a function organized at the school premises, said the press release of the embassy.

A campaign of “Free Lunch Provision” to the students started last year with the initiation of the Israeli Embassy there has been almost fourfold increase in the number of the school students from 80 to 310, said the school sources. Hence, this year too, the Embassy has decided to continue the same project, the release added.

Beside the donation program, the school premises was also cleaned. In which, Shalom Club members along with school students tried to make the school premises environment-friendly. Dustbins for were also donated.

Speaking at the function, the Ambassador of the Israel in Nepal Benny Omer expressed happiness and said that “When school kids can enjoy both good food and clean environment, they will be able to concentrate on their study and will think of their future.”

“The day-meal program started with the help of Israeli Embassy has helped us to increase students’ enrollment in the school, said the Principal of the school Sudam Prasad Gautam, said the press release.
