October 10 is a National Day of the Republic of Fiji, an island nation in Melanesia, Oceania, located in the South Pacific Ocean.
Fiji is an archipelago of 322 islands with a population of over 900,000 that got independence from the British Colonial Rule in 1970.
According to Fijian government statistics, there are some 2,000 Fijians of Nepali origin whose ancestors came there as farm labourers along with Indian workers during the British colonial rule.
Suva is the capital and largest city of Fiji located on the main island of Viti Levu.
Nepal and Fiji established formal diplomatic relations in 1986.But only from 2013, Nepal and Fiji further strengthened diplomatic ties with the appointment of non-resident ambassadors. Nepal handles Fiji’s relations through the Embassy of Nepal in Canberra, Australia whereas Fiji handles from its embassy in New Delhi, India.
Like Nepal, tourism is the dominant economic driver besides sugarcane, agriculture, and mining.
Today on the auspicious occasion of the Fiji National Day, we would like to extend our warmest congratulations to the people of Fiji.
Let’s hope Fiji-Nepal diplomatic relations will be strengthening day by day at the government and people to people level.
