Spain is a country on Europe’s Iberian Peninsula with a population of nearly 49.8 million. Madrid is a Capital city.
Spain celebrates the National Day on 12 October which is traditionally and commonly referred to as the Día de la Hispanidad, commemorating Spanish legacy worldwide, especially in Hispanic America.
National Day of Spain commemorates the discovery of the Americas by Christopher Columbus for Spain on 12 October 1492. It symbolizes Spain’s vast, common heritage with today’s American countries, which made up the Spanish Empire, the first global power in world history.
Earlier Spain was divided into multiple smaller independent kingdoms and later was unified under a single monarchy. Spain has never been colonized by foreign ruler.
However, the modern Spain was founded through the dynastic union and joint rule of Queen Isabella I of Castile and King Ferdinand II of Aragon, whose marriage in 1469 and subsequent conquest of the Emirate of Granada in 1492 united the Christian kingdoms of the Iberian Peninsula. The national day celebrates unity and fraternity, and also shows Spain’s ties with the international community.
Nepal and the Kingdom of Spain established diplomatic relations on 13 May 1968. Nepal opened its embassy in Madrid in January 2018. The Embassy of Spain in New Delhi is concurrently accredited to Nepal. But Spain has its Honorary Consulate in Kathmandu.
The relations between the two countries are cordial.
We extend our warm congratulations to the entire Spanish today on La Fiesta Nacional de España and wish the Spanish people a joyous celebration.
Long live Nepal-Spain friendship and hope the bilateral ties will be strengthened in the days ahead based on friendship, cordiality and mutual respect.
