US releases 2026 Trafficking in Persons Report

Human trafficking is a direct assault on the values of freedom and dignity that define America.

The 2026 Trafficking in Persons Report reveals new ways criminal organizations and repressive regimes use this abhorrent practice for financial gain. The report also calls for accountability for governments that fail to punish traffickers and protect their citizens, stated in the press release of the U.S. Department of State.

The Trump Administration will use all available tools to fight traffickers and their enablers and bring them to justice, the release added.

More than 180 nations have ratified or acceded to the UN Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons (the UN TIP Protocol), which defines trafficking in persons and contains obligations to prevent and combat the crime.

Among those countries’ reports, the snapshots Nepal’s report has been Nepal carried out that mentioned that the Government of Nepal does not fully meet the minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking.

The Nepal government did not demonstrate overall increasing efforts compared with the previous reporting period. Therefore, Nepal remained on Tier 2 Watch List for the third consecutive year.
