Every year, Kazakhstan celebrates Republic Day on October 25th.

On October 25, 1990, the Declaration of State Sovereignty of the Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic laid the foundations for the country’s future statehood, establishing principles of territorial integrity, political self-determination and national identity that would become central to independent Kazakhstan.

A Central Asian country and former Soviet republic, Kazakhstan is a landlocked country situated primarily in Central Asia, with a portion of its territory extending into Eastern Europe extending from the Caspian Sea in the west to the Altai Mountains at its eastern border with China and Russia.

In 1997, the Kazakh capital was moved from Almaty in the south to Akmola (formerly Tselinograd) in the north, a year later this was renamed Astana.

The world’s ninth-largest country by land area and the largest landlocked country Kazakhstan has a population of 20.6 million is generally classified as an upper-middle-income, developing country and is the wealthiest and largest economy in Central Asia.
