October 9 is the National Day of the Republic of Uganda- a landlocked country in East Africa bordered to the east by Kenya, to the north by South Sudan, to the west by the Democratic Republic of the Congo, to the south-west by Rwanda and to the south by Tanzania.

Uganda gained independence from the UK on October 9, 1962. Due to the high volume of corruption rate Uganda is considered as one of the poorest nations in the world.

Nepal and Uganda established formal diplomatic relations on June 12, 2017.

Uganda operates diplomatic activities related to Nepal from its Embassy in New Delhi whereas the Embassy of Nepal in Pretoria, South Africa was authorized to look after Ugandan diplomatic issues. But as per the Nepal government’s decision to permanently close and discontinued all consular services effective October 1, 2026 it has not been given a clear picture. However, the Nepal Embassy in Egypt will likely see the diplomatic issues related to Uganda. As per the unconfirmed report, around 350 Nepali nationals live and work in Uganda.

On the auspicious day of Independence day of Uganda, we extend warm congratulations to the people of Uganda on the 64th anniversary of Uganda’s independence and wishing them a Happy National Day.

Long live Nepal-Uganda relationship and hope the friendly ties existed between both the countries will be strengthened in the days ahead.
