The Kingdom of Lesotho celebrates its National Day known as Independence Day, on October 4 every year. Lesotho gained full independence from the United Kingdom on October 4, 1966 from British colonial rule.
Earlier the country was recognized as Basutoland. But when the country gained full freedom and sovereignty from Great Britain it changed the name to the Kingdom of Lesotho in 1966.
Lesotho is a landlocked country in Southern Africa completely surrounded by South Africa. The country has around 2.4 million people and Maseru is the capital city. Lesotho is considered a poor country with widespread poverty and deep economic challenges classified as a lower-middle-income developing nation.
Nepal and Lesotho established diplomatic relations on May 18, 2010. The High Commission of the Kingdom of Lesotho in New Delhi looks after diplomatic activities of Nepal whereas the Embassy of Nepal in Pretoria oversees diplomatic affairs, consular services, and bilateral engagements for Lesotho non-residentially.
