SArabia to host World Expo 2030; FIFA 2034

The oil-rich kingdom Saudi Arabia has won the bid to host Expo 2030 in its capital, Riyadh.

The global event international fair to be held every five years will run in Saudi Arabia from October 1 2030 to March 31, 2031.

The Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) Tuesday announced that Saudi Arabia gained 119 votes defeating Busan of the Republic of Korea received 29 votes and Rome of Italy 17 votes during the 173rd general assembly of the organization in Paris.

The powerful nation of the Gulf Region Saudi Arabia has planned to spend US $7.8 billion to stage the Expo to boost tourism and transform its austere reputation under the theme “The Era of Change: Together for a Foresighted Tomorrow.”

Launched in 1851, the World Expos have been platforms for introducing groundbreaking inventions evolved to not only be celebrations of human ingenuity, but also opportunities for host cities to catalyze economic growth and global recognition bringing together nations to showcase technological innovations and cultural achievements.

2034 FIFA World Cup

After Australia decided not to offer to host the tournament, Saudi Arabia confirmed to host the 2034 Men’s World Cup and claimed to be the organizer of the World Cup in 2034.

2026 World Cup America, Mexico and Canada will be held. Morocco, Portugal and Spain will host the World Cup in 2030, in which some games will be played by Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay.

FIFA said the 2034 World Cup would be held in Asia or Oceania, and Australia’s bid was seen as Saudi Arabia’s only potential challenger. But since he did not propose the project, it is certain that the World Cup will be held in Saudi Arabia. 

Likewise, Saudi Arabia will host the 2029 Asian Winter Games at a mountain resort in Neom, which was developed at an expense of US $500 billion.

It will be the second time that the event has been held in the Middle East after Dubai hosted the pandemic-delayed Expo 2020. The 2025 Expo is to be held in Osaka, Japan.

According to the Saudi News Agency SPA, Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud said ” Riyadh is happy to welcome the world at the expo in 2030, and it will fulfill the obligations stipulated in the bid as the theme of the expo underlining its influential and leading role and the international confidence it enjoys. Saudi Arabia has become an ideal destination for hosting major international events, including the esteemed World Expo.”

“The World Expo 2030 coincides with a crucial year for the realization of the goals and plans outlined in Saudi Vision 2030,” Prince said.
