The United Nations General Assembly wrapped up its 79th session recently with endorsing its budget of US $3.72 billion for 2025.
The budget funds various programmes including political affairs, international justice and law, regional cooperation for development, human rights and humanitarian affairs, and public information, peacekeeping operations specially to support landlocked developing countries.
Every member of the United Nations is required to contribute to the organization’s budget. The United States is its largest donor. Mandatory contributions fund administrative costs and peacekeeping operations.
According to the UN sources, the United States is a top funding country for the UN budget followed by China, Japan and Germany in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th positions.
The United Kingdom ranks at 5th position whereas France stands at 6th ranks.
Italy is in the 7th followed by the Russian Federation.
Meanwhile, the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has secured US $68 million fund to address environmental challenges across 22 countries,
