Popular political leader of Slovakia Robert Fico who is also a prime minister of the country was reported to be in stable condition now after a lengthy surgical operation.
Popular Slovakian PM Fico, who was shot multiple times in an assassination attempt at an event on Wednesday in Handlová was immediately taken to hospital where he was operated on.
According to BBC reports, Slovakia’s deputy prime minister Tomáš Taraba said that PM Robert Fico’s condition is no longer life-threatening. “One bullet went through the stomach and the second one hit the joint. Immediately he was transported to hospital,” Taraba informed.
According to Slovakian media Markiza, police arrested a shooter identified as 71-year-old writer Juraj Cintula who wrote poems and previously worked as a security guard.
It is to remember here that Slovakia has experienced a handful of shooting incidents over the last few years.
The populist leader Fico, having served four terms as the country’s prime minister, was born into a working-class family.
He was involved in the law profession before beginning his political career with the Communist party. He set up his own centre-left Smer-SD party in 1999.
His party won a landslide victory in the 2006 elections.
Meanwhile, more world leaders had reacted to the shooting of PM Robert Fico.
