Singapore most expensive city, Karachi least

Hong Kong, Singapore, Zurich, Geneva, Basel, Bern, New York, London, Nassau and Los Angeles are the top 10 most expensive cities in order from rank 1 to rank 10 as stated in Mercer’s 2024 cost-of-living data report.

Singapore ranks as the most expensive city in the world in 2024 while the New York borough of Manhattan is the most expensive place to live in the U.S

Dubai being the most expensive city in the Middle East, ranking 15th globally. Oman capital city Muscat ranks most affordable city for expatriate workers in the Gulf region.

Doha is the second as the least expensive city in the region, while Kuwait City follows in third place.

Dubai clinched to become the most expensive city in the Middle East for international workers holding the 15th spot globally.

Hong Kong, Singapore and Switzerland’s Zurich are currently the top-three costliest cities for international workers, the report noted.

Likewise, Nigeria’s Abuja, Lagos and Pakistan’s Islamabad are the three least expensive cities in the world.

European cities London, Copenhagen, Vienna, Paris and Amsterdam are also listed in various levels.

In South America, Montevideo, Uruguay, is listed as the costliest city for international employees whereas Argentina’s Buenos Aires has become a more affordable city. Santiago of Chile and Sao Paulo of Brazil are also on the list.

In North America, New York City is the most expensive city, followed by Nassau, Bahamas, Los Angeles, Honolulu and San Francisco all in USA.

Likewise, Mexico City and Monterrey are also in the list.

Among the African cities, Bangui, Djibouti and N’Djamena are the high-cost living cities. The least expensive cities in the region are Blantyre, Lagos and Abuja.

Apart from Hong Kong and Singapore, the other most expensive cities in Asia are Shanghai, Beijing of China and Seoul of South Korea.

The least expensive cities in the Asian region are Pakistan’s Karachi and Islamabad and Bishkek, the Capital city of Kyrgyzstan.

Among the Pacific region, Sydney tops, followed by Noumea, New Caledonia, Melbourne, and Brisbane of Australia.

Auckland and Wellington of New Zealand remain the least expensive cities.
