Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav has been elected Vice President of Nepal.
Yadav who was endorsed as VP candidate form Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) defeated Unified Marxist Leninist (UML)’s Astalaxmi Shakya and Janamat Party’s Mamta Jha in the election held in the Parliament House in New Baneshwar, Friday.
Yadav garnered 30,328 votes while his nearest rival UML candidate Astalaxmi Shakya got16,328 votes.
According to the Election Commission (EC), another vice-presidential candidate Mamta Jha and Pramila Kumari Yadav received nominal votes.
Members of the House of Representatives, National Assembly and Provincial Assembly voted for the Vice President.
According to the EC, among the total 52,628 votes, it needs at least 26,314 votes to elect.
Yadav is a member of the House of Representatives elected from Bara 2 Constituency.
He is also the leader of the parliamentary party of JSP.
Yadav succeeded the second vice president Nanda Bahadur Pun.
Itis to note that the first vice president was Parmanand Jha.
