Global Crime Index (GCI) has announced that Qatar become world’s safest country for second time.

Qatar retained its position as the Safest Country globally as per the 2020 mid-year Crime Index by Numbeo, the world’s largest user-contributed database on cities and countries. 133 countries have been included in the ranking.

According to the classification rules of the GCI report, Qatar ranked 133th in crime rate by registering the Lowest Crime Rate with 11.90 points out of 100.

“Qatar’s outstanding record is considered as an extension of its achievements in the past years of 2015-2019, where it achieving the first place globally in 2017 and 2019 while maintaining the first position in the Arab world during the period,” Ministry of Interior said in a tweet.

Qatar become safest country last year. Again, this year, a report of GCI mentioning as Qatar do not have any criminal record therefore, Qatar became world’s safest country to stay.

It is to note that, Since 2015 Qatar is safest country among Gulf and from 2018 it became world’s safest country.

The Numbeo database has been publishing indices since 2009. The report takes into account the different types of crimes and their classification according to the laws on crimes, offences and violations.

Having topped the charts from 2015-2019, Qatar’s ability to maintain its position as the safest Arab country in the region and worldwide for another year, reflects the constant and outstanding level of security and safety enjoyed by the country.

According to the classification rules of the report, countries are ranked in reverse order, meaning that with Qatar ranked 133 by registering the lowest crime rate with 11.90 points out of 100, it has topped the charts once again.

The Numbeo database has been publishing annual reports since 2009, based on the crime rates in the countries of the world. Its methodology does not use a universal standard of crime but instead uses domestic laws to determine crime rates.

The gas rich state- Qatar has been facing an ongoing blockade by its Gulf neighbors- Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Bahrain along with Egypt since June 2017.

Despite efforts to cripple its economy, last month, Qatar was ranked sixth on a list of 63, mostly high-income, countries for economic performance.

Qatar will also take courage from a ranking that was published in the International Institute for Management Development’s World Competitiveness Yearbook, which placed the Gulf state 14th for competitiveness, ahead of Germany (17) the United Kingdom (19) and China (20).

Three years after the blockade on Qatar began, Doha has reduced its past dependency on food and other essential imports from its Gulf partners and built alternative trade routes.
Doha’s economic performance through the twin challenges of the blockade and the current corona virus pandemic has been hailed by the world.

So, no doubt, upgrading the climbing index in all sectors are likely to be seen as a moral boost for the Qataris. Also, the encouragement might support Qatar to become one of the first in the world forum near future.
