The FIFA Council met in advance of the FIFA World Cup final in Doha, Qatar has decided that the next edition of FIFA Club World Cup will be held in 2025.
For men’s football, an expanded 32-team FIFA Club World Cup™ is set to begin in June 2025 and will take place every four years.
Each previous edition has been held annually between the champions of each continent, and the next Men’s Club World Cup will take place in 2025 and will feature 32 teams,” announced FIFA president Gianni Infantino.
With this, the dream of the current Champions League winner Real Madrid to become the world champion again is seen to be shattered. The current world champion club is Chelsea Football Club. The criteria for participating clubs for the upcoming World Cup have not been clarified.
The FIFA Council also hailed Qatar World Cup as the “best ever”, following nearly a month during which “football reinforced its unique cohesive power by uniting the world in a spirit of peace and friendship”, and adopted a number of key decisions for the future of football.
The decision for the FIFA World Cup 2030 host will also be made in 2024, with the bid regulations to be published early next year, FIFA said.
