Nepal recognized the State of Israel as an independent country. And established the diplomatic relation between Nepal and Israel on June 1, 1960 during the time of the then prime minister of Nepal Bishweshwar Prasad Koirala and then prime minister of Israel David Ben Gurion of Israel. With this, Nepal was the first South Asian state to establish full bilateral ties. Since then, the bilateral ties between Nepal and Israel have been warm and cordial as well as supporting each other at the various international forums.
Israel opened its embassy in Kathmandu in March 1961. However, the Nepalese Ambassador to Egypt was accredited to Israel. Then after, Honorary Consulate General of Nepal in Israel began to look after related issues from 1993.
But finally, in 2007, Nepal opened its residential embassy and it became easier to focus on the bilateral issue effectively.
Today, Israel is also one of the many countries where Nepalese are allowed to work as Nepal and Israel signed an “Agreement on the Temporary Employment of Nepal Workers in the State of Israel’s Specific Labor Market” on 30 September 2020.
So, it is estimated that currently around 8,000 Nepalis are working as caregivers or farm workers in Israel that has been branded as the most lucrative job market for Nepali women workers.
Also, many Nepalese people of various professions have been trained in Israel.
Thus, without doubt, Israel is one of the friendliest countries of Nepal.
