Nepal urges Israel, Palestine to end war

Nepal has called for easing the tension in the ongoing war between Israel and Palestine.

Issuing a statement on Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has said on Wednesday evening that Nepal was concerned about rising tensions between Israel and the Palestinians.

Nepal has called on both sides to end the war immediately. The Ministry also called on both countries to exercise restraint and stop the devastation.

Meanwhile, Nepali Ambassador to Israel Ms. Dr. Anjaan Shakya has issued a statement stating that Nepalis living in Israel are safe. The embassy also urged its citizens to be careful and stay safe and advised not to sit at the window and immediately enter the house as soon as the siren sounds.

Fighting between Israel and the Palestinians has been raging in East Jerusalem for a week. Tensions were high at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, a holy site for both Muslims and Jews. Violence has also erupted in areas where Israel has a mixed Jewish and Arab community.

According to the international media, the Palestinian rebel group Hamas have fired dozens of rockets at Israel and Israel also airstrikes rockets in Gaza that killed some of Hamas’ senior commanders and destroyed several buildings in Gaza.

As the conflict escalates, the United Nations has warned of a full-scale war. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has said he is “deeply concerned” about the ongoing violence.

In another development, Israeli President Reuven Rivlin has called on Jews and Arab Israelis not to be pushed into a meaningless civil war. Also, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said troops would be deployed to restore peace in the cities.

“It is unacceptable for an Arab mob to attack a Jews or for a Jewish mob to attack Arabs,’ the PM Netanyahu stressed.

Meantime, US President Joe Biden called Israeli PM Netanyahu and expressed his support for Israel’s security and called for the restoration of lasting peace.
