Nepal-Nauru establish diplomatic ties

Nepal has established diplomatic relations with Nauru.

The permanent representatives to the United Nations of Nepal and Nauru Amrit Rai and Ms. Margo Reminisse Deiye respectively signed the agreement in this regard at a special program held at the United Nations headquarters in New York on Thursday.

With this, Nepal has expanded its diplomatic relationships to 179 countries of the world. There are 193 sovereign countries that are member states of the United Nations.

According to Britannica’s list of countries, there are 196 countries including Vatican City, Taiwan, and Kosovo.

The Holy See or Vatican City and Palestine are only two non-member states who are assigned the status of permanent observers of UN proceedings for political and religious reasons.  However, Taiwan is not in the list.

Ambassador Rai and Envoy Ms. Margo Reminisse Deiye have informed the Secretary General of the United Nations that both the nations have established diplomatic relations

The ambassadors of both countries said that they are confident that the establishment of diplomatic relations will lead to cooperation and coordination in the United Nations and other platforms, work in the interest of both sides and establish civil relations.

The smallest republic, a tiny island country located in the Micronesia northeast of Australia near the Pacific Ocean in the world, Nauru is scattered into 21 sq km. Nauru is a coral reef and white-sand beaches.

An upper-middle income economy with a population of 12,511 (2021) recognized as an independent country in 1968, is a country.

Yaren is the capital city of the Republic of Nauru.

The Republic of Nauru was admitted as the 187th member state of the United Nations in September 1999, and subsequently established its Permanent Mission in January 2000.
