Nepal -Marshall Islands establish diplomatic ties

Nepal and Marshall Islands establish formal diplomatic relations.

Republic of the Marshall Islands is an island located in the Pacific Ocean near Guam sit atop ancient, submerged volcanoes rising from the ocean floor, about halfway between Hawaii and Australia, north of Nauru and Kiribati, east of the Federated States of Micronesia, and south of the disputed U.S. territory of Wake Island.

Majuro is the capital and largest city of Marshall Islands, geographically lies slightly west of the International Date Line, has a population of 42,050 people (World Bank Census 2021).

The Marshall Islands signed a Compact of Free Association with the United States in 1983 and gained independence in 1986 with the Compact’s entry into force.

Permanent Representatives of Nepal and Marshall Islands to the United Nations Amrit Bahadur Rai and Amatlain Elizabeth Kabua respectively signed documents at a ceremony and exchanged.

Both the ambassadors also shed lights views on various matters of common concern.

With this, the number of countries having diplomatic relations with Nepal has now reached 181 among 192 UN member countries.
