Nepal Aviation: Again, helicopter crashes, all killed

An Air Dynasty’s helicopter crashed into a forest in Shivapuri National Park of Nuwakot district.

Shivapuri National Park in Nuwakot is about 57 km north from the capital.

The helicopter 9N-AJD of Air Dynasty, the private company, took off from Kathmandu airport at 13:54 PM for Syafrubesi of Rasuwa district met with an accident at around 13: 58 shortly after takeoff on Wednesday, killing all five people on board.

The Nepali Police confirmed the death of Captain Arun Malla (Nepali citizen) and all four passengers were Chinese nationals.

Among the four deceased, three were men and one woman.

According to the Tribhuvan International Airport Tower authority, within three minutes of take off the chopper lost its contact with the TIA tower.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal said, the crash site is located at Suryachour of Nuwakot district.

As per the reports, local residents saw a fire emanating from the forest and alerted authorities.

History

Tracing the aviation history of Nepal, the number of air accidents has reached 109 now with the latest of Air Dynasty’s chopper crash. And 974 people have lost their lives.

For the first time, India’s Kalinga Air crashed in Simra in 2012 May that killed two people in the accident.

According to the historic report, 25 people have lost their lives in eight one-engine accidents in Nepal, while 97 people have lost their lives in more than 41 chopper crashes.

Similarly, 375 people lost their lives in 10 plane crashes of foreign airlines. 469 people died in the accident of 51 domestic flights.

Although air transport is considered as the safest, fastest, most accessible and reliable means of transportation enabling passengers to reach their destinations quickly and efficiently.

Country like Nepal where there are many parts of Himalayan and hilly region, air transport can transport goods to areas that are not easily accessible by other means of transport.
