Foreign Minister of Nepal Dr. Narayan Khadka highlighted Nepal’s position on multilateralism and various issues of national interest during the address to the General Debate of the 76th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York Monday.

According to the Nepali Mission to the United Nations in New York, Foreign Minister Khadka said that terrorism was the enemy of human existence and that Nepal was opposed to it.

Condemning extremism Minister Khadka lauded Nepal’s contribution to the United Nations for the past 63 years for the promotion of peace, security and stability.

Nepal was against the nuclear arms race, the Minister emphasized and stressed on the promotion and protection of human rights.

Lauding the efforts of the international community, including the United Nations, in addressing the challenges posed by COVID-19, he also urged the vaccine against COVID-19 should be given to all people everywhere in a fair and equitable manner.

So far Nepal has vaccinated 20 per cent of Nepalis despite obstacles and challenges, Minister Khadka highlighted and informed the international community that Nepal will vaccinate all Nepalis within six months.

Meanwhile, Minister Dr. Khadka also had fruitful bilateral talks on the sideline of the UNGA meeting with Indian External Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar.

During the meeting the two ministers agreed to further strengthen the existing cooperation between Nepal and India.

Likewise, Minister Dr. Khadka also had fruitful bilateral talks with Foreign minister of Kuwait at New York at the sideline of the UNGA meet.

During the meeting, both the ministers discussed matters of common interest, form labour ties to promotion of trade, tourism and investment.

He also met President of the General Assembly Abdullah Shahid. During the meeting, Minister Dr. Khadka congratulated him for being elected to the Post of the President of the General Assembly and assured Nepal’s full support to him that his tenure was successful.

The discussion was also focused on strengthening the role of UNGA on development peace and COVID-19 recovery.
