The Government of the United States of America and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) today affirming common interest in the promotion, support, and empowerment of women and girls around the world and our close and continuing partnership.

The MOU reflects desire to strengthen women, peace and security efforts to promote women’s economic empowerment and address the crosscutting issues of preventing and responding to gender-based violence, countering violent extremism, and elevating women and girls’ leadership in OIC Member States, said the press release of the US State Department.

U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues, Dr. Geeta Rao Gupta signed the MOU for the United States and Assistant Secretary General for Humanitarian, Cultural and Social Affairs, Ambassador Tarig Ali Bakheet, signed for the OIC in Washington, D.C.

The MOU reflects the Administration’s ongoing commitment to promoting the rights and empowerment of women and girls through U.S. foreign policy and confirms our shared vision for more inclusive, resilient, safe and rights-respecting communities, reads the release.

G7 Statement

G7 Foreign Ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, and the High Representative of the European Union, stand firmly with Ukraine and its territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence.

G7 will never accept Russia’s illegal annexation of portions of Ukraine’s Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions for two years violating international law committed by Russia, the US State Department press release added.

G7 calls on all members of the international community to urge Russia, a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, to abide by the UN Charter and the basic principles that underpin the international order and also to condemn Russia’s illegal aggression, human rights violations and ongoing brutal attacks destroying civilian, critical and urban infrastructures, it said.
