KOICA’s GSP continues sustainability efforts

Capacity building training for principals and local teachers concluded on July 11, 2023.

Conducted by a KOICA IT Volunteer Hyunsoo Park and facilitated by Director of Wildlife Conservation Nepal Ms. Sanjeevani Yonjan Shrestha and Project Coordinator Rajeshwor Rijal a two-day training participated in by 10 representatives from Padmodaya School of Putalisadak in Kathmandu, Tokha based Shree Saraswati Secondary School, Nepal APF School of Kirtipur,  Pragati Siksha Sadan of Kupondole and Shree Shramik Shanti Secondary School of Chyasal in Lalitpur district began on July 10 was held at the premises of Wildlife Conservation Nepal Office in Tokha, northern part of downtown.

The workshop had successfully introduced Green School Policy (GSP) and established connections between green school activities in the curriculum. Additionally, the workshop also finalized annual planning for green school activities.

Under KOICA’s GSP, KOICA Nepal Office and Wildlife Conservation Nepal inked a third phase deal on June 23, 2023 with US $13,835 budget allotments.

In the first and second phases, GSP educated students, empowering them to take initiative-taking measures in waste management at its source.

Primary objectives of  GSP’s third phase were to enable those schools to become exemplary green schools by providing comprehensive training on Nepal government’s green school guidelines that outlines the integration of green school activities into the school curriculum, conducting waste audits, providing leadership and practical training for Eco-Club members, facilitating capacity-building workshops, organizing inter-school competitions on environmental themes, and coordinating clean-up campaigns.

Furthermore, KOICA’s initiatives in the environmental sector GSP will work towards promoting KOICA’s concept of green Official Development Assistance at the community level.

KOICA Nepal Office has introduced GSP since 2021.
