KOICA, partner teams talk ‘e-volunteering’

A virtual meeting on Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and volunteer partner organizations was organized here on October 16 Friday.

The webinar organized by Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Nepal Office via Cisco WebEx Meet was aimed to share the “e-volunteering” concept with all the recipient organizations to internalize the new normal situation during this pandemic, stated in a press release of KOICA Nepal office.

As KOICA wants to reach and serve its volunteer partner organizations through “e-volunteering” concept even during the coronavirus pandemic with sharing integrity approach to promote SDG 16, the virtual meeting discussed ways to promote a better policy and effective implementation of volunteer programs in future days.

18 participants from different volunteer partner organizations exchanged the views in the program, it added.

Aiming with sharing and exchanging the best practices every year, KOICA reviews and evaluates its volunteer program with related organizations for exploring new ideas to improve volunteer programs in Nepal.

Country Director of KOICA Nepal Office Sunghoon Ko emphasized on the importance of cooperation from recipient organization in order to strengthen the KOICA program in Nepal.

He also focused on e-volunteering and urged to re-launch the Korea Overseas Volunteer (KOV) Program after COVID situation.

Representatives from various institutions including Kathmandu University, Pokhara University, Suryodaya Municipality, Thapathali Campus shared their experiences and prospects on e-volunteering.

The KOICA Volunteer Program is one of the main pillars of KOICA’s activities that aims to contribute to reduction of poverty and achieve sustainable development by strengthening friendly ties between Korea and host countries, said the release.

Beginning 1990, KOVs have been extending their hands of cooperation in various government organizations of Nepal in different sectors.

KOICA is committed to increase the KOVs in Nepal as their knowledge has seen positive contribution for changes in Nepal’s development stage, added the release.
