International Day for Srebrenica Genocide to be observed

The UN General Assembly on Thursday designated 11 July as the International Day of Reflection and Commemoration of the 1995 Genocide in Srebrenica.

Marked as one of the darkest chapters of the war in July 1995, the Bosnian Serb army overran Srebrenica that erupted after the breakup of former Yugoslavia, genocide in Srebrenica had claimed over 8,000 people and displayed thousands.

Germany and Rwanda sponsored text was adopted by 84 nations in favour, 19 against and 68 abstentions.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said it would “open a Pandora’s box” that is  “highly politicized.”
