After almost 5 years of suspension Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong and Indian Foreign Secretary Shri Vikram Misri held a meeting of the Foreign Secretary-Vice Minister mechanism between China and India on Monday in Beijing.
From early 2020 India and China had halted political meetings citing COVID pandemic but the reality was border clash political tensions.
According to a Chinese Foreign Ministry statement on Tuesday, the two world’s most populated nations’ officials meeting had reached into measures to improve and develop China-India relations.
With normalization of the relations between China and India, both the nations agreed Monday to resume direct flights between the Chinese mainland and India that were halted since early 2020.
Besides agreeing to resume direct flights between New Delhi and Beijing, India will fully support Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and will be an active player.
The two nations also agreed to jointly commemorate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and India in 2025 along with exchanging media and think tank people and also cultural exchanges.
Two nations also inked cross-border rivers mechanism to promote the resumption of pilgrimage to Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar in western Tibet, which are considered sacred sites in Hindu, Buddhist, Jain, and Bon faiths.
The sour relationship between China and India turns into a diplomatic breakthrough after the first formal meeting in five years between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Russia in October 2024.
The breakthrough agreement has shown two powerful nations’ commitment to improve bilateral relations exploring cooperation.
