HK Express has been recognized as the fastest-growing airline of 2024 by global travel data provider OAG.
HK Express is a Hong Kong-based low-cost carrier and a subsidiary of the Cathay Pacific Group. Founded in 2004, the airline primarily focuses on offering affordable, no-frills air travel to destinations across Asia. Its operational model emphasizes cost efficiency, punctuality, and convenience, catering to budget-conscious travellers.
According to OAG, the airline, a subsidiary of Cathay Pacific, expanded its operations significantly over the past year. It increased its flight count by 46%, growing from 23,940 flights in 2023 to 35,015 in 2024. This surge was attributed to an expanded network and additional fleet capacity.
In the same report, Shanghai Pudong International Airport was named the fastest-growing airport, with seat capacity increasing by nearly 10 million to over 47 million year-on-year.
HK Express serves over 30 destinations in various South East Asian countries with its fleet of Airbus A320 family aircraft, including A320s and A321s, which are known for their fuel efficiency and suitability for short- to medium-haul routes with a low-cost carrier business model with seat selection and priority boarding.
OAG also highlighted key milestones in global air travel for 2024. August 2 marked the busiest day of the year, with airline seat capacity reaching 19,278,320—a new record that surpassed 2023’s peak by over 692,000 seats. In contrast, November 28 was the quietest day, with 14,871,278 seats scheduled.
