World Health Organization (WHO) remains concerned about the escalating health crisis in the occupied Palestinian territory, including the West Bank.
Since the war in Gaza started on October 7, 2023 in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem has resulted in the deaths of 521 Palestinians between till 10 June 2024. over 5200 people have been injured.
WHO calls for the immediate and active protection of civilians and health care in the West Bank.
Meanwhile, in a report of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) released on Friday said the global fight to tackle female genital mutilation (FGM) is being undermined by the movement of some girls across national borders and beyond to undergo the procedure.
“Female genital mutilation is part of a continuum of gender-based violence and has no place in a human rights-respecting universe,” said the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk.
Urging for extended cooperation towards ending the FGM issue indicating nearly 4.3 million girls were at risk of being subjected to FGM in 2023 and over than 600,000 women in the Europe are thought to be living with the consequences of FGM.
