Fulpati, the seventh day of Bada Dashain festival, was observed on Friday. In Nepali,”Ful” means flower and “Pati” means leaves and plants.

On the occasion, the Fulpati, an assortment of flowers, leaves and fruits of different plants considered auspicious, were taken into the homes as per tradition throughout the country today. There is a tradition in Nepal to bring nine types of Fulpati into homes on the seventh day of Navaratri. It is believed that Fulpati represents nine Goddesses and they bring health, wealth and prosperity to the homes.

In the capital, the Fulpati was anointed at the Dashainghar on the seventh day of the Bada Dashain festival.

The tradition started during the period of King Prithvi Narayan Shah. The main function was held at Hanuman Dhoka in Kathmandu, where Fulpati was brought to Dashainghar in a traditional procession with Vedic rituals. The Fulpati was brought to Kathmandu from Gorkha as per the Vedic rites to be anointed at the Dashainghar at the Hanumandhoka Durbar.

Feu de joie held

On the occasion, the Nepal Army organized ‘Fulpati Badhain’, feu de joie, at the army pavilion in Tundikhel, Kathmandu on Friday.

A feu de joie at Tundikhel saw various activities of the army including gun firing. The parade lasted for half an hour during which limited activities were showcased. This year the Nepal Army held the ceremony being minimalist to give continuity to the cultural and religious tradition.

The feu de joie was graced by President Bidya Devi Bhandari, Vice-President Nanda Bahadur Pun, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, high-level government officers, members of the diplomatic corps, senior army officers.

This year due to the risk of COVID-19 infection, there was not much general public thronging around the army pavilion to watch the parade as like in the previous year.
