France marks Bastille Day on Friday with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as guest of honor.
However, this year, on Bastille Day fireworks have been canceled in parts of France over fears of a resurgence of the recent unrest that has swept the country, as well as the risk of fire caused by extreme heat.
Bastille Day, which commemorates the storming of the Bastille prison in 1789 that started the French Revolution, is the common name given in English-speaking countries to the National Day of France, celebrated on 14 July each year.
History showed, the French Revolution on July 14, 1789, came in the wake of the nation’s most serious rioting in nearly 20 years, following the fatal police shooting of a teen with North African roots that laid bare anger over entrenched inequality and racial discrimination. Established in 1880, this date commemorates both the storming of the Bastille on the 14th of July 1789, which ended absolute rule, and the Festival of the Federation of the 14th July 1790.
Generally, Bastille Day- 14th of July- a national holiday is celebrated with a mixture of solemn military parades and easygoing dancing and fireworks.

The Storming of the Bastille marked the start of the French Revolution. In July 1830, the French started a revolution to overthrow their king. This was called the July revolution. The success of the revolution showed that the spread of liberalism could not be stopped.
Bastille represents a call for liberty, equality, and a more democratic form of government. Today, the holiday is an opportunity to celebrate French unity and the French way of life.

Vice-President of Nepal Ram Sahaya Yadav was the chief guest at the function in which large numbers of guests including members of diplomatic corps, high level Nepal Government officers, security officers, entrepreneurs, journalists and others from various walks-of -life attended.
