Former President of the United States of America Jimmy Carter died Sunday- December 29, 2024 afternoon at his home in Plains, Georgia.

The centenarian longest-living 39th American president Jimmy Carter was surrounded by family. He had turned 100 in October, a statement from the Carter Center said.

Former President Carter will be honored with public observances in both Georgia and Washington, D.C. He will be interred in Plains, Ga., according to the Carter Center.

President Carter is survived by his children — Jack, Chip, Jeff, and Amy; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rosalynn, and one grandchild.

Carter was a United States President, a U.S. Navy veteran, a Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, and a humanitarian who dedicated his life to promoting peace, democracy, and human rights.

Carter won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 “for his decades of untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development.”

Former President Jimmy Carter’s marriage to first lady Rosalynn Carter played a defining role in his life, spanning 77 years and making it the longest presidential marriage in U.S. history. Jimmy Carter died on Sunday, according to the Carter Center.

Even after he left office, President Carter never stopped pursuing peace and advancing human rights, in ways big and small, often with his wife and partner of 77 years, Rosalynn.

For decades, they worked side-by-side, whether they were picking up hammers to help build homes for families in need, or leading efforts through the Carter Center to eradicate disease, resolve armed conflict, monitor elections, and promote democracy, it said.

Rosalynn Carter died on Nov. 19, 2023, at age 96, just days after she entered hospice care. She had been diagnosed with dementia in March.

Members of the public are encouraged to visit the official tribute website to the life of President Carter at www.jimmycartertribute.org.

This site includes the official online condolence book as well as print and visual biographical materials commemorating his life.

The Carter family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Carter Center, 453 John Lewis Freedom Parkway N.E., Atlanta, GA 30307.

A man of faith, President Carter once said that “our greatest blessings come when we are able to improve the lives of others.”

Meanwhile, President Joe Biden and first Lady, President-elect Donald Trump, and Vice president-elect JD Vance, other leaders of the US political arena offered condolences and warm wishes for the family of former President Carter.

The other world political leaders also offered condolences for Jimmy Carter family members praising Carter’s decades of achievement and service to the country and world.

in another news, the UN Secretary-General António Guterres extended his deepest condolences to the Carter family and all citizens of the United States on Sunday at the passing of former United States President Jimmy Carter.

“President Carter played a key role in conflict mediation, election monitoring, the promotion of democracy, disease prevention and eradication and helped advance the work of the United Nations.” UN Chief added.

“His contributions to international peace and security, “including the landmark 1978 Camp David Accords” between Egypt and Israel and also the Strategic Arms Limitation Talks which led to the 1979 SALT II Treaty between the US and the Soviet Union – limiting nuclear proliferation – together with the Panama Canal Treaties which enabled ownership of the key waterway linking the Pacific and Atlantic to return to Panama in 1999 which remains in force,” the Secretary-General noted.

President Carter, together with former South African President Nelson Mandela, founded The Elders group, to advance the human rights and peace agenda.
