Quake claims 95 lives in China along over hundred injured, building damaged
An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 jolted Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan and several parts of Tibet Autonomous Region of China struck 90 km NE of Lobuche, Nepal at 06:50 A.M. Nepal time (01:05:16 GMT) on Tuesday,
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the epicenter with a depth of 10.0 km, was initially determined to be at 28.58 degrees north latitude and 87.39 degrees east longitude.
The National Emergency Operation Center has reported that there have been no casualties in Nepal so far.
Thirteen people sustained minor injuries and two houses collapsed and 12 others were partially damaged in the tremor which hit nine districts of Nepal, informed Nepal Police in a statement.
But according to the various sources of Nepal Police, and international media reports, the death toll from the earthquake of the early morning of Tuesday in Nepal killed 95 people and 130 people have been injured so far in Dingri County, Xinjiang Autonomous Region at 9:05 a.m. on Tuesday (Beijing time) China. Over 1,000 buildings were also toppled down by the powerful earthquake that struck a region near one of Tibet’s cities. Chinese official news agency Xinhua published a video of police removing rubble and lifting debris.
The Himalayan region is prone to powerful earthquakes. In 2015, a quake in Nepal with a magnitude of 7.8 killed nearly 9,000 people. In Kathmandu, Nepal’s capital, residents streamed out of their homes in the morning as the earthquake rattled buildings.
Meanwhile, President Ramchandra Paudel has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of precious lives and properties in the earthquake that struck Tibet Autonomous Region of the People’s Republic of China this morning.
