Thousands of journalists’ working in the US media face their jobs being threatened.
The US President Donald Trump Administration issued an executive order on 14 March, 2025 calling for a major reduction of US Agency for Global Media (USAGM) to dismantle to the maximum extent consistent with applicable law.
USAGM is an independent federal agency overseeing international media including Voice of America (VOA), Radio Free Europe (RFE), Radio Free Asia (RFA), Office of Cuba Broadcasting and Middle East Broadcasting Networks of the United States Government which is known as the Broadcasting Board of Governors until 2018, said the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) press release.

Meanwhile, Brussels of Belgium based the International Federation of Journalists (the global voice of journalists founded in 1926 representing 600,000 media professionals in 187 unions and associations in more than 140 countries) and its affiliated organizations –the National Writers Union (NWU), the NewsGuild-CWA and the Authors Guild in the US have called on the US President to review the executive order on USAGM to stand for media pluralism and protect thousands of journalists’ livelihoods.
